In Yiyang City of Central China’s Hunan Province, measures taken to protect and restore South Dongtinghu Nature Reserve’s ecology have begun to pay off, as more flocks of migratory birds have been attracted to its wetlands.
“We wetland protection department has sent staff members to conduct 24-hour patrols in turn and explained laws and regulations on illegal fishing to the public. We have taken efforts to jointly safeguard the ecological environment of the South Dongtinghu wetland and to attract more birds to come and spend winter,” said He Xixin, a patroller of South Dongtinghu Nature Reserve.
Since the beginning of 2021, the reserve has seen growth in vegetation from an increasing number of biological resources because of the sufficient wetland restoration strategy launched by local authorities.
Currently, 288 species of birds have been recorded in the nature reserve, with more than 60,000 birds spend winter in the reserve’s wetlands.
