Cabinet Minister (Fisheries Department) Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad while addressing the entrepreneurs, office bearers of business associations and dignitaries in Brazil’s commercial capital Soa Polo regarding the invitation of the UP Global Investors Summit to be held in February next year said that, it is indeed an honor to speak in front of this great gathering in Brazil.
It is a country with a history, culture and economic landscape that has carved a niche for itself in the world. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad, Minister of Fisheries Being the National President of the Nishad Party said I am happy to know that Brazil has a vast fisheries ecosystem and an estimated 3.5 million Brazilians. People are directly or indirectly involved in fisheries and aquaculture. I will share some observations on the fisheries sector in Uttar Pradesh and the opportunities available to invest.
Nishad said that abundant water resources/sources are available in various forms in Uttar Pradesh. The state’s population is projected to reach 263.8 million by 2027, with 170 million fish consumers, requiring about 1.18 million tonnes of fish annually. To build export potentialities of UP by optimum and sustainable utilization of available water resources for fish production, effective fishing in reservoirs, promotion of aqua-tourism, installation of cages in reservoirs through technology interventions and advanced scientific methodology.
There is an opportunity to invest in utilization. Through the effective implementation of the State’s flagship program ‘Blue Revolution’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ of the Government of India, fish production and its economic ecosystem have improved and moved up the value chain, contributing to employment generation for the local people. stakeholders have been touched.
Uttar Pradesh was awarded the ‘Best Inland State’ award in 2020-21 by the Government of India due to the state’s contribution to fish production. Uttar Pradesh traditionally has 18% fishermen population, whose livelihood depends on various fisheries activities and can contribute in the form of manpower required for any upcoming fisheries projects.
Uttar Pradesh with its vast natural water resources, effective implementation of government schemes, incentives to beneficiaries across the value chain, policy support, skilled/unskilled workforce and recognition of fisheries as an economic contributor offers ample opportunities for investment in various identified activities.
