The Fisheries Protection Unit in Buvuma District of Uganda has destroyed illegal fishing gear worth millions of shillings in a move geared towards restoring sanity on lake Victoria.
According to Captain Jacob Obbo, the officer commanding the Fisheries Protection Unit in this area, over 100 fishermen have been roped up in the last 4 months, with others posing as officers of the Fisheries Protection Unit to terrorize lake users. Captain Jacob Obbo made the revelations as he addressed the media in Lukoma.
