For effective implementation of sheep and fishling distribution schemes, the State government has decided to conduct elections for about 7,037 Sheep Breeders Cooperative Societies and also 949 Fishermen Cooperative Societies in the State. In all, there are 8,025 Sheep Breeders Cooperative Societies and 3,820 Fishermen Cooperative Societies in the State. Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Development Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Saturday reviewed the status of implementation of the sheep distribution and fishlings distribution schemes in the State. He observed that in the absence of elected bodies in some cooperative societies, a few eligible members of these societies were not receiving the benefits of the government schemes. He asked the officials concerned to make arrangements for conducting the elections under Telangana State Cooperative Societies Act. The Cabinet sub-committee would convene a meeting and take a decision on conducting elections for both the sheep breeding and fishermen cooperative societies, to ensure smooth distribution of sheep and fishlings in the State, the Minister said. He said that necessary proposals will be sent to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for his approval to conduct the elections for cooperative societies.
