Telangana Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav has said that the government is considering fish purchase, marketing and export under Private Public Partnership (PPP) model. Speaking at the review meeting held here on Saturday, Mr Yadav said the fish production has increased in the state after supplying free seeds. In 2016-17, the fish production was 1,.97 lakh tones, wherein 2020-21 it was 3 .39 lakh tones, the Minister said. Of the total production of fish, 60 per cent is utilised locally and remaining is exported to West Bengal (21 per cent) and Assam and Tamilnadu (19 per cent), Mr Yadav said. Stating that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s intention is to strengthen the fisheries community economically and socially, the Minister said for the benefit of the fisheries community the state government is considering purchasing fishes directly from the farmers by avoiding middlemen. To strengthen the fisheries market, the government has launched mobile fish markets in the state, the Minister said the government is considering to constitute clusters with adding 2 to 3 mandals. About 200 clusters will be created in the state. Of them, 40 to 50 clusters will be connected to the Food Processing units. In the first phase, the processing units will be constructed at Sheriguda in Hyderabad, Khammam, Nizamabad and Warangal, he said. The Minister said as per ICMR, the state fish consumption 7.88 kgs per annum as against 12 kgs. Even though the fish is available in the state, it would not be able to be supplied to the people. Government is making efforts to fill the gap, an official release here said.
