Sri Lanka Navy Wednesday arrested five fishermen from Tamil Nadu for allegedly breaching the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command during a patrol conducted in the sea area northwest of the Kovilam Point arrested the Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler engaged in illegal fishing practices. Subsequently, the apprehended fishermen were escorted to SLNS Uttara and the seized trawler was brought to SLNS Elara. The group of fishermen will be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward action, after a medical examination.
