The Indian Coast Guard apprehended seven Sri Lankan fishermen and their boat for fishing in the territorial waters of India. According to Coast Guard Station, Tuticorin, the Indian Coast Guard ship Vaibhav apprehended one Sri Lankan fishing boat named Kuvisha Putha 03 during security patrol in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on Tuesday. The Sri Lankan fishermen were apprehended approximately 150 nautical miles off Kanyakumari coast while they were engaged in illegal fishing in Indian waters. The boat and crew members were apprehended under the Maritime Zones of India (MZI) Act. The Sri Lankan fishermen and their boat were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard ship Aadesh, which was escorting them to Tuticorin. They would be handed over to the Coastal Security Group in Tuticorin for further investigation, a Coast Guard official statement said.
