The Central Fish Market (CFM) yesterday said the fish prices in the Peliyagoda Fish Market will be reduced within the next few days with the Government’s decision to reduce a litre of kerosene by Rs.50.00 from midnight yesterday.
Speaking to Daily News CFM Chairman Jayasiri Wickramarachchi said the kerosene price reduction is really a consolation to almost all fishing boat and fishing trawler owners. He said at this moment fish prices in the Peliyagoda main fish market has rapidly gone up as a large number of fishermen have stopped fishing owing to the unbearable fuel prices especially diesel.
He said with this price reduction many regular fishermen will once again begin their fishing activities and this situation will help fish stall owners at the main fish market to reduce fish prices. He said this price reduction will also largely benefit to outstation fish stall owners and also the consumers within the next few days.
Wickramarachchi further said if authorities immediately relax the on-going diesel restrictions it will also be helpful to countrywide fisher communities. He said even at this moment many fisher families countrywide have kept away from fishing especially at night due to the high price of kerosene. Wickramarachchi said if fishermen keep away from fishing it will affect to both consumers, hoteliers and also seafood exporters and thanked the Government for reducing kerosene price.
