The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) has voiced concern over a trade deal with Norway that it claims will affect members’ livelihoods.
Westminster is being urged to negotiate with the Scandinavian country to ensure the Kirkella, a £52m freezer trawler, can continue to fish in the Barents Sea after January 1, when the Brexit transition period ends.
The vessel, which operates out of Hull docks, brings back thousands of tons of Arctic cod, much of which ends up in fish and chip shops across Britain.
UK Fisheries, which owns the Kirkella, has warned that unless a deal is struck within weeks, distant-waters fishing will end, with the loss of up to 100 jobs in Hull.
