The negative effects of bottom trawling has been highlighted by environmental groups in Dublin this afternoon.

Extinction Rebellion, the Irish Wildlife Trust and Sea Change dragged a makeshift fishing trawler across town to the Dail, discarding so called by catch on the way.

The wildlife and environmental groups involved in today’s protest are calling for a ban on bottom trawling and supertrawlers, while simultaneously calling on the government to honour the EU directives for marine protected areas in our seas.

Extinction Rebellion is demanding that the government increase marine protected areas around the island, bringing us in line with European directives.
