Oregon will recognize its first official Indigenous Peoples’ Day Monday.

The Legislature and Gov. Kate Brown approved the state holiday earlier this year. It will be held each year on the second Monday of October.

Salem Indigenous Now will hold its fourth Indigenous Peoples’ Day event from 2-6 p.m. Monday at Gerry Frank Amphitheater, 200 Water St. NE. The event will include Native American dance styles, singing and drumming.

The museum’s signature exhibit, Oregon — Where Past is Present — also displays a replica of a plank house that coastal communities built and sheltered in, as well as other objects that educate visitors about Oregon’s first people.
