Omani contractor Galfar Engineering and Construction has been awarded a contract for the construction of a fisheries port and related marine and road works in Duqm by the Special Economic Zone Authority, Duqm (Sezad).

The contract is worth $157m (OMR60.6m), said a company filing at the Muscat Securities Market.

The duration of the contract is 30 months, in addition to six months for mobilisation.

Dr Hans Erlings, chief executive officer of the company, said in the filing: “We expect reasonable income from this project.”

Sezad floated the tender this January, inviting local and international contractors.

The fishing port and industry area is part of Oman’s efforts to diversify its econony, boost job oppoprtunties for citiziens and stimulate commerical activity in the Al-Wusta Governorate.
