As huge marine products are available in Odisha for export, the State Government has urged the Union Ministry of Shipping to impress upon the shipping liners to operate from the Paradip Port for the purpose. MSME Secretary Satyabrata Sahu has requested the Ministry of Shipping to take up the issue with shipping liners as the Paradip Port authorities are ready to offer more facilities to them. The issue was discussed at a workshop on Export of Marine Products from Odisha: Potential held here on Wednesday which all stakeholders attended. Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) president Ramesh Mahapatra, Director Fisheries SR Pradhan, officials of Paradip Port, Paradip International Cargo Terminal, MPEDA, COBNCOR and airport authorities and the Director Export Promotion and Marketing shared their views. It came to the fore that marine products worth Rs 3,029 crore were exported from Odisha through the Visakhapatnam and Kolkata Ports last year. However, there is a lot of scope to export marine products from the Paradip Port. It was appraised that due to non-availability of shipping liners, export of containerised cargo is not made through the Paradip Port, which, though, has enough infrastructure for the purpose. MPEDA Chairman KS Srinivas was urged to make their quality control laboratory at Bhubaneswar operational by end of September 2020. It was pointed out that a multimodal logistic park is being established at the Paradip Port over an area of 100 acres, which would be operational by December 2020. With such facilities soon to be available, exports from Odisha could be undertaken through the Paradip Port.
