An MoU was signed between Paradip Port Chairman PL Haranadh and Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited. (IPRCL) MD Anil Kumar Gupta for upgradation and modernisation of the Paradip Fishing Harbour at a cost of Rs 99.75 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samapada Yojana (PMMSY).

The fishery harbour, located on the right bank of Mahanadi, spreads over an area of 39 acres. Currently, the harbour is being used by over 740 vessels. The existing facilities are not up to international standards in terms of washing, sorting, packing and loading fish to trucks and maintaining harbour clean.

Upgradation through automation of landing quay and auction hall to minimise human handling of fish, efficient disposal of liquid and solid wastes by providing effluent treatment plant, provision of toxic and non-toxic waste receptacles will be in place. The erection of the entire upgradation/modernisation shall be completed within a period of 18 months.
