Floods destroyed 782 acres of fish lakes in Mon and Kayin States during the second week of August, resulting in a loss of Ks 330 million, said Win Kyaing, General Secretary of Myanmar Fishery Federation (MFF). The floods damaged 703 acres of fishing lakes in Kayin State and 79 acres in Mon State, according to the MFD. Last year, there was a loss of over Ks 200 million. Mon and Kayin States faced severe floods this year, he added. Last year, the floods destroyed more than 200 acres of fishing lakes, resulting in a loss of Ks 225.3 million. Fishery Department will distribute fingerlings nationwide after the department and authorities compile the list of damaged lakes and losses. In August and September, 2015, the floods affected the agricultural and fish breeding sectors, according to the MFF. The floods in 2015 affected 16,641 acres in Ayeyawady Region, 7,476 acres in Yangon Region, 456,749 acres in Sagaing Region, 25 acres in Magway Region and 58,689 acres in Rakhine State. There was a loss of around 50 billion, according to the MFF.
