The production of fish products may stop due to a three-month ban on offshore fishing, said Win Kyaing, General Secretary of Myanmar Fishery Federation. The authority has fixed the zero-fishing period for 92 days from June 1 to August 31 in order to conserve fish resources in Myanmar territory sea water. On April 12, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation issued the no-fishing period and area for the offshore fishing industry. Last year, the ministry reduced the non-fishing season to a certain percentage. This year, the ministry has placed the total ban on offshore fishing. Some people will do offshore fishing illegally. This is a significant matter. The offshore fishing industry will stop if there is no relaxation of restrictions, he added. According to the Offshore Fishing Entrepreneurs Association, there are more than 3,000 offshore fishing vessels and more than 60,000 fishing workers.
