La Via Campesina, the international peasants’ movement, has released an illustrated version of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP).

In this a “peasant” is defined and includes small- and medium-scale farmers, indigenous people, migrant workers, farm labourers, pastoralists, and fisherfolk. The UNDROP, adopted in December 2018, opines that States shall take appropriate measures to promote and protect the traditional knowledge, innovation and practices of peasants and other people working in rural areas, including traditional agrarian, pastoral, forestry, and fisheries.
