The state government has allocated Rs 31 crores for disbursal of pension for fishermen community. Fisheries minister J Mercykutty said that measures have been taken to distribute pension to beneficiaries before Onam. The fisheries department issues three types of pension which include old age pension, employee pension and widow pension. The amount will be distributed from March 2016 to September. The beneficiaries will get Rs 600 per month from March to May and Rs 1000 per month from June to September. The pension is being distributed through fishermen welfare board and beneficiaries will get pension in their bank accounts. The government has recently launched home delivery of pension through service co-operative banks across all local bodies in the state.
