Fishworkers under the banner of the Kerala State Matsyathozhilali Federation (CITU) took out a march to Raj Bhavan here on Saturday demanding increased share of Central assistance for welfare and livelihood support schemes targetting coastal communities in the State. CITU State president Anathalavattom Anandan inaugurated the march. Leaders of the federation said the NDA government at the Centre had suspended the assistance for housing schemes and construction of seawalls and harbours and slashed the quota of subsidised kerosene, forcing fishermen to buy fuel from the market at exorbitant rates. State president of the federation Koottayi Basheer and general secretary P.P.Chitharanjan were among those who addressed the march.
