Officials of the Departmentof Food Safety and Fisheries said on Saturday that no traces of formalin were found in the samples of fish collected from Malpe fisheries harbour and the fish markets at Udupi and Kundapur. They were participating in the district-level Food Safety Advisory Committee meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis, at the District Offices Complex here. Vasudev, District Food Safety Officer, and Parshwanath, Deputy Director of Fisheries, said that samples had been collected after the Deputy Commissioner directed them to test if the chemical was being used in the fish being sold in the district. Samples of 15 varieties of fish were collected for testing and sent to the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories in Mysuru. The lab report indicated notraces of any chemical in the samples. Meanwhile, Ms. Francis urged food safety officials to regularly inspect water packaging units.
