B S Yediyurappa government in its maiden cabinet meeting decision on Friday has decided to waive off Rs 60.854 loans availed by fishermen. The fishermen, including fisher women, had availed the loan for various fisheries activities such as selling fish, procurement of equipment, capital for starting fisheries business and for fish rearing at subsidized rate of 2% from commercial and regional rural banks. D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru city south MLA in a communique stated that the 23507 fishermen from three coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada during 2017-18 and 2018-19 has availed loans to the above amount and was due to the lenders. The decision by the government has given these fishermen a way out from their financial crisis, the MLA said, thanking the CM for this decision.
