The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has assigned the Directorate General of the Civil Guard of the Interior Ministry, the use of two helicopters, owned by the General Secretariat of Fisheries, to perform fisheries inspection activities.
This cession is the result of an agreement between the two ministries in the frame of CORA government agency rationalization, and will be supplemented with two more helicopters specifically designed for fisheries control, inspection and surveillance, which the Civil Guard will maintain and operate.
Thus, the General Secretariat of Fisheries will have them operational and with more flight hours devoted to fisheries inspection at a lower cost, and will also have the possibility to use other air resources from the Civil Guard for fisheries inspection missions.
For its part, the Civil Guard will count with two helicopters available, under its main fisheries inspection activity, to also develop the other tasks this Service performs at sea.
The helicopters operational start-up will be implemented through annual agreements between both Ministries (PACIAP), in which the operation and budget lines will be described.
Thus, collaboration between the two ministries in the area fishing activity control, based on the Framework Agreement signed in 1997, will cover all its dimensions: Ground (with Seprona included in the current PACIAP), sea (with the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, also within the current PACIAP) and air (with the Air Service of the Civil Guard).
