Indian Marine Fisheries contributes to the food security, nutrition, poverty alleviation, trade and livelihoods of fishermen. Considering India’s commitment to various international agreements towards ensuring sustainable fisheries the EEZ and in line with the recommendations of ‘National Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2017′, it is imperative to bring in a comprehensive legislation for regulation of fishing activities in the EEZ between 12 NM to 200 NM from the baseline, which comes under the purview of the Department of Fisheries, Government of India. The Marine Fisheries ( Regulation and Management ) Bill has been drafted after four rounds of consultative meeting of the Committee for drafting of the Marine Fisheries ( Regulation and Management ) Bill in consultation with experts and stakeholders.
