A workshop on ‘Safer Sea and Maritime Search & Rescue for Fishermen’ was conducted by Indian Coast Guard on Friday at Porbandar. The very purpose of organizing this workshop was to sensitize the fishing community to adopt to safe practices at sea. Indian Coast Guard is the nodal agency for maritime search and rescue in the maritime zones of India. The agency has established Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Maritime Rescue SBB Centre (MRSC) at various locations to coordinate SAR efforts, Porbandar being one of them. During the workshop fishermen were sensitized to contact nearest Coast Guard Station or headquarters in case of any distress at sea.
