The fisheries sector is the fastest-growing one in India. It not only provides food and nutrition security but also gives employment and income to about 28 million people. The government of India has given a fillip to the sector by announcing a new Flagship Scheme i.e. the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) at an investment of Rs.20,050 crore.
