Cyclone in Arabian sea: In view of the developments in the weather, State Emergency Operations Centre in Kerala have instructed fishermen to refrain from venturing into seas after October 6. The monsoon has come to an end along with a short-duration of Cyclone Daye, which caused heavy rainfall over several parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department has now predicted a formation of a low-pressure system that could turn into a storm or cyclone in the South East parts of Arabian Sea. As per the forecast, the storm could bring rains in some southern states from October 6 onwards, the Times of India reported. The weather system over the Arabian Sea is likely to gain strength on October 7 and 8, the Met department has reportedly predicted. In view of the possible cyclone, State Emergency Operations Centre in Kerala has instructed fishermen to refrain from venturing into seas after October 6, news agency ANI reported. As per reports, there was a possibility of heavy rains on Tuesday in parts of Kerala with a yellow alert being issued for Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts. While the alert has been issued in Idukki till October 5, the district administration of Thrissur, Palakkad, and Kozhikode have issued the alert till October 4 and 5, The Hindu reported. The daily also added that heavy to very heavy rainfall was expected to hit Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad on 5 October. The depression is expected to move north-westward away from Maldives, Lakshadweep, and Kerala towards the open Central Arabian Sea within two to three days since its formation, the IMD has predicted. Jayanta Sarkar, regional director of IMD in Gujarat said that though the state may not get heavy rainfalls due to the impending cyclone, parts of the state may receive light showers or overcast weather conditions. He added that the department would issue alert for fishermen not to venture into the sea in the coming days, the Times of India reported. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office, Kerala, uploaded a post on Facebook on Sunday to warn citizens about the upcoming changes in the weather. The post read, Efforts were also taken to communicate this information to those who have already left for fishing with a plan for long duration sailing. Efforts will be taken to bring them back before 5 October.” It further stated, Those who are going from today are instructed to return before 5 October. The Fisheries Department has also been directed to ready water ambulances and emergency rescue boats for emergencies, added the CMO.
