CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, here conducted a two-day interactive workshop on skill development in fisheries and aquaculture during February 21-22 which was inaugurated by CSIR-NIO Director, Professor Sunil Kumar Singh. According to a statement on Thursday, participants of the Workshop included the stakeholders (mostly women) mainly from Madkai Village, fishermen from Dona Paula and entrepreneurs. The overall objective of the Workshop was to create awareness on the various skill development activities undertaken by the Institute as a ongoing activity of the CSIR’s Integrated Skill Initiatives and Government of India’s Skill India Mission. The two-day workshop included the talks on the need for skilling in fisheries sector, various skill development programmes, information on funding avenues by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Department of Fisheries and NABARD. A site visit to green mussel culture demonstration unit initiated by CSIR-NIO at Madkai for hands-on-training was also a part of the Workshop.
