Fishermen to get Non-fishing period allowance within 15 days besides 60 percent subsidy on fish seed and feed. This was announced by e Rural Development, Panchayti Raj and Fisheries Minister Virender Kanwar, while addressing a gathering of fishermen after inaugurating Landing Centre at Baldar village near Dadaseba on Monday. The minister said the fishermen society would be provided with the latest techniques and other benefits to boost the fishery trade and to strengthen the economy of fishermen. He said free water tanks would be constructed for fishermen. Kanwar said besides fish farming, sheep and poultry farming was the priority of the state government. He assured that under MNREGA free sheep and poultry sheds, besides life jackets for the fishermen would be provided this year. He said the landless and homeless people would be provided with government land and a house on it. The minister said for improving the financial condition of fishermen, the government had many programmes and added that a Rs 34 crore Central Government project was approved and four processing units would be set up in the state. He said fish ginger and other fish products would be sold on higher price so that the fishermen were directly benefited. Kanwar said that efforts were made to arrange fish seed from Pong and Bakra dam instead of getting it from Kolkata. He suggested that the fishermen should join fish farming. He assured that both his constituency and Jaswan Pargapur would be developed on the tourism front. He announced Rs 30 lakh for the road connecting the Landing Centre at Baldar. Industries Minister Bikram Thakur announced that two mini secretariats would be constructed at the cost of Rs 1 crore at Dadaseba and Rakkar.
