The interim budget provided a major impetus to schemes for farmers and fishermen. In order to ensuring timely and on-time disbursal of interest subsidy to farmers, the state government proposed to set up a revolving fund of Rs 500 crore. The government has also planned to increase the area under horticulture plantation to 18.55 lakh hectare and the production to 300 lakh metric tonnes by 2021-22, said deputy chief minister Nitin Patel while presenting the interim budget in the state assembly. Organic Agriculture University is also being set up at Halol in Panchmahal district to provide education, research and latest technology to farmers in organic farming. To support the fishing community, the state government increased the VAT subsidy on diesel for fishing boats from Rs 12 per litre to Rs 15 per litre. As many as 10,677 fishermen will benefit from the decision. The budget also doubled the daily livelihood allowance to the families of fishermen who are held captive by Pakistan Marine Agency and kept in jails. The allowance will now be Rs 300 per day. New fish landing centres will also be set up to provide better facilities to 23,000 active fishermen in Valsad district. Considering the substantial production and exports of prawns from the state, the government has decided to allot additional 5,000 hectares land to encourage production of prawns in the state. This will provide employment to 25,000 aqua-culturists in Gujarat.
