Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu on Monday said that a laboratory run by the Quality Council of India and the Export Inspection Agency would be set up to check formalin in fish. Addressing a press conference at state secretariat at Porvorim near the city, he said,”We have decided to put a world class laboratory.” He said there would be a mobile van and a laboratory so that if there were any complaints they could be addressed immediately. ”Also we will put a mobile van and a laboratory, so if there are any specific complaints they can be addressed immediately. We are working very closely with the Goa government and it is a joint endeavour on part of central government and Goa government to ensure that whatever are the apprehensions, (they) are completely dispensed. We will be able to address it in a proper and effective manner, also we are going to put a system of online complaints. If people have any complaints, they can file online complaints so that online complaints can be addressed immediately with substantiated laboratory tests,” he said. ”I think, this should ensure that Goa has always been at the forefront of good quality and Goa government’s total commitment to ensure that quality is never compromised, not only to ensure that these supplements Goa government’s efforts which are already in place on ground, with global institutions which are accepted globally will be working together,” he said. Goa Agriculture Minister Vijay Sardesai said a per the tentative plan the laboratory would be at Old Asilo (Mapusa).
