The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on Monday issued a show cause notice-cum-stop work order to M/s Saldanha Developer Pvt Ltd, the project proponent of 140 rooms hotel project proposed at Velsao, under section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act. Addressing a press conference, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha disclosed that GCZMA issued a show cause notice-cum-stop work order to M/s Saldanha Developer Pvt Ltd, following a complaint from villagers and with the subsequent site inspection carried out by GCZMA authorities at the proposed site of the hotel project in the property bearing survey no0- 71/1, in the village of Velsao. Cortalim MLA Saldanha said that the inspection report conducted by GCZMA authorities last week revealed observations/findings depicting violation of CRZ notification 2011. It has also been observed that the CRZ clearance obtained by the proponent in 2006 has lapsed and the same has not been renewed as per procedures, in violation of the Environment Act 1986. Therefore the GCZMA has issued the stop work notice and a personal hearing is fixed on June 12, 2018 during which the Saldanha Developers will have to explain their stand vis-à-vis the CRZ rules and regulations, said Saldanha. She maintained that the show cause notice-cum-stop work order issued by GCZMA has been received by Saldanha Developers Pvt. Ltd and due to which the ongoing work of the proposed 140 room hotel project at Velsao in property bearing survey no- 71/1 has come to a halt. I request the villagers to be vigilant and remain united until such time the matter is solved as per law, said Saldanha. Meanwhile, Saldanha on Monday inspected and reviewed the measures taken up by Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) at the flood prone zones in view of the ongoing construction work of the Zuari Bridge and an approach road in Cortalim.
