Goan fishermen have opposed the draft CRZs notification to reduce the no development zones near the shores and rivers. The fishermen say they do not stand to benefit from this amendment at all and that the government is trying to fool them. Hence they have demanded that the draft amendment to CRZ rules be scrapped. Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has proposed an amendment to CRZ rules, reducing the no development zone near shores from 200 metres to 50 metres and near rivers from 100 metres to 20 metres.
