A designated corridor 15 nautical miles away from the coast, especially meant to help merchant ships avoid mid-sea avoid collisions with other ships and fishing boats, will be strongly opposed, as it will impact crores of fishermen and others in the fishing business. At a meeting at Velsao on Sunday, the National Fishworkers’ Forum’s (NFF) executive committee has decided to stage sea protests’ on October 30 across coastal states using their country and mechanized boats. NFF vice-chairperson Olencio Simoes called it the final nail in the coffin for three crore fishermen.
