Fife’s fishing communities have been urged to take part in a new project which aims to protect their heritage.
Kilcheran, a Scottish non-profit social enterprise, has financial support from Historic Environment Scotland’s Coasts and Waters Heritage Fund to lead the initiative.
it works with communities to revisit their cultural heritage to create new futures for young people.
This project will assess the feasibility of rekindling fishing basket weaving skills in young people, and explore how this could be developed into financially viable future livelihoods.
Dr. Fiona Macpherson, director of the Haddington-based Kilcheran, said: This is all about valuing and caring for our environment, but also creating opportunities for business and job creation too.
It is exciting to replicate the concept of our work on our doorstep with local communities along the Fife coast.
Fiona wants to hear from people in coastal fishing communities – fishermen and youth groups – who would like to participate.
