Fishermen in Tema, Ghana, are struggling with the supply of premix fuel since it has been scares in recent times.
A visit to the Tema Canoe Landing Beach revealed that most fishermen had docked their canoes and fishing boats as a result of the shortage of premix; as well as the long queues that characterize the supply of the commodity, whenever available.
This has also affected fishing expeditions and the sale of fish since fishermen are unable to make enormous catch for supply to fishmongers.
Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Correspondent Patricia Kyei, the Awudum Chief Fisherman, Nii Odamettey, reiterated that the situation is affecting their fishing expeditions especially during this major fishing season.
The Chief Fisherman also said some of challenges confronting fishermen at the Tema Canoe Landing Beach, include the acquisition of outboard motors.
At the VVIP Tema-Kumasi-Tamale Station at Mankoadzi, there were
only a few passengers as only two buses were parked at the terminal.
The Terminal Manager, George Afful said with the shortage of diesel
only three or four buses leave to Kumasi and Tamale as compared to
about seven previously.
There was also less business at the Tema-Koforidua Urvan Bus Station also a Mankoadzi.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Oil Marketing Companies, Kweku
Agyeman Duah, says the shortage is easing up although the stock is not enough.
He tells Radio Ghana that the cash and carry systems being
carried out by the Bulk Oil Distributor Companies is also contributing to the intermittent shortages.
