The depression over Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclone Asani in the next few hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD)informed in a late-night tweet, that the depression is predicted to move “northwards along and off Andaman and Nicobar Islands”.

“The Depression over southeast BoB near latitude 10.9°N & longitude 93.2°E, about 200 km north-northeast of Car Nicobar(Nicobar Islands), 100 km south-southeast of Port Blair(Andaman Islands). To intensify into a deep depression in next 12 hrs and into a cyclonic storm in next 12 hrs,” the tweet read.

The weather department had advised fishermen not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal as well as into the Andaman Sea and along and off Andaman and Nicobar between March 19 and 21.
