In New Zealand, Taranaki Fish and Game rangers are urging freshwater anglers to dust off their fishing gear and return to the local rivers and lakes under the coronavirus alert level 3 restrictions.
Covid alert level 3 came into operation at 11.59pm on Monday April 27 and will be reviewed on May 11.
Being able to break the cabin fever and go fishing locally is fantastic safe family fun, Taranaki Fish and Game field officer Allan Stancliff? said.
Stancliff said anglers who traditionally travel to go fishing now have local fishing options on the doorstep.
Six spots are recommended for good fishing at lower Waiwhakaiho River near Rimu St, Lake Rotomanu, Lake Mangamahoe (fly fishing only), Manganui River at Everett Park, Waingongoro River upstream from Ohawe and Kaupokonui Stream, upstream from Kaupokonui Beach.
“Looking forward, the reduction to Alert Level 2 in a couple of weeks will open further opportunities for anglers and their families that have been cooped up at home.”
Adults need a licence, with free licence for kids under 12.
