Argentine authorities received a Chinese delegation that arrived in the country to participate in the first meeting of the 2016 China-Argentina Subcommittee on Fisheries, generated under the cooperation agreement on fisheries between the two national portfolios.
The group, led by the General Director of the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA), Zhao Xingwu, was received by the Secretary of Agroindustrial Markets, Marisa Bircher, and Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agro Industry of Argentina, Tomas Gerpe.
At the meeting, held at the Ministry of Agro Industry, Bircher highlighted the importance of bilateral relations with the Asian country and stressed the contributions to exports made by the national fisheries sector.
For his part, Undersecretary Gerpe stressed: “We understand that our goal is to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership between Argentina and the People’s Republic of China”.
“Trade relations in the field enables us to advance steadily, overcoming obstacles through discussions between the two countries.”
After the meeting, both delegations agreed to continue the cooperation in aquaculture and schedule the visit of Chinese experts to offer training courses to Argentine technicians for the second half of this year.
“As indicated by minister Buryaile and secretary Negri, we need to generate new productive alternatives that allow the diversification and integration of our country into new markets,” expressed Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
According to Argentine officials, the willingness of the parties to generate a fluent dialogue and a closer relationship was reflected when the parties addressed the cases of illegal fishing in the exclusive economic zone of Argentina.
The general director of the Fisheries Bureau of China made the satellite positioning system of its international fishing fleet available while undersecretary Gerpe gave them the detailed map of the EEZ of Argentina to be released among Chinese fishing companies operating offshore.
The meetings between the two countries arise from the Fisheries Cooperation Agreement signed in July 2010 between the two governments so they meet to advance in the development of the sector.
In the latest meeting it was also decided that the 9th Meeting of the China-Argentina Subcommittee on Fisheries will be held in China in November this year.
