The Norwegian government is taking increasing measures to bolster the nation’s seafood consumption, although it has to break down public perception among the younger generation to do so.

According to Roy Angelvik, representing the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), the average Norwegian is aware of the health benefits of eating seafood, but will still prefer to eat alternative proteins.

“Maybe, it’s because seafood feels like something that is a duty, while chicken or beef is a pleasure, a party, Angelvik said. “We must make efforts to change this belief.

The NSC has set itself the target of boosting Norwegian seafood consumption by 20% by 2021, with current consumption at an average of 2.3 fish meals per week.
