Brussels will be marking World Environment Day this Sunday with several events organised in the Belgian capital, in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
Throughout the day, members of the public can attend workshops, family activities and games. The city’s public transport network will also be involved in the celebrations. The day culminates with the City Hall of Brussels, on the world famous Grand-Place, lighting up in green in the evening.
This year’s World Environment Day is of particular importance as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference, widely viewed as the first international meeting on the environment.
The slogan for the Stockholm Conference was ‘Only One Earth’ and 50 years on, this truth still holds – this planet is our only home.
The Fête de l’environnement (Festival of the Environment) takes place at the Tour & Taxis Park in Brussels from 11am to 7pm, with interactive games, creative activities, and information stands on local environmental issues.
