Two fishermen died while six others were rescued when their boat capsized off Southern Leyte on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

The PCG said that the fishermen were onboard their boat when they encountered strong winds and big waves during a fishing venture in the waters off Barangay Manglit in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte around 3 a.m. on Christmas Day.

“They tried to take shelter but their motorbanca submerged due to the prevailing sea and weather conditions,” the PCG reported.

The PCG cautioned fishermen from going out into the sea as bad weather caused by a shearline and northeast monsoon continued to affect parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The six survivors were brought to Pintuyan municipality in Southern Leyte for further assessment while the local government unit of Jasaan was notified of the incident so they could extend assistance to the families of the fatalities.
