Chief minister Nitish Kumar said here on Saturday that the Union govt, led by PM Narendra Modi, has been providing assistance to the state for the fisheries sector, which is boosting the development of the state and the country. He said Bihar has become self-dependent in the fisheries sector, owing to the farmer friendly policies of the govt.

He was addressing a workshop on ‘Use and application of drone technology in the fisheries sector’, organised by the Centre’s fishery department, here. An exhibition related to the use and application of this technology was also organised on this occasion.

The CM said, “Those engaged in fish farming and production are getting the fruits of development and also contributing to the state’s growth. Bihar has now become self-dependent in the fishery sector.”

While the state’s fish production was 2.88 lakh metric tonne (MT) in 2005 it has now increased to 8.70 lakh MT. “Earlier, fish was brought to Bihar from other states, but now we are sending it to others,” the CM said, adding that the implementation of the three agriculture road maps had led to an increase in the production of fish, mutton, vegetables, milk, eggs and also other crops. A sum of Rs 1.62 lakh crore has been allotted for expenditure pertaining to the fourth agriculture road map (2024-30), he added.

On this occasion, the CM handed over cheques to the beneficiaries of PM Matysa Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), besides distributing fish seeds among farmers.

Union fishery, animal husbandry and dairy minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha, WRD minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, state animal husbandry and fishery minister Renu Devi and other state and central govt officials were present on this occasion.
