Nine villages of Dhalchar union in Char Fasson upazila were flooded, following the rise in tidal water during the past two days, with no dams restricting the flow of water. Sources said, around eight thousand residents are living in a water-logged state. Also roads, markets, schools, and madrasas have partially submerged in flood water, and communication is disrupted. The flooded villages are: Dalapur, Hazipur, Adarshapara, Shanti-nagar, Keramatganj, Mohammadpur, Bhodropara Sharifpara, and Sheikhpara. Locals informed that they have lost their crops along with their livestock, and their fish were taken by the sea, due to the high rise of tidal water. Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Salam Hawlader said: “As the roads are submerged, the classes in schools, and madrasa are halted.” Char Fasson Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ruhul Amin said: “We cannot reach the affected areas as all communications were disrupted. Efforts are underway to establish communication.” Executive Engineer Kaisar Alam of Bangladesh Water Development Board said: “Sea-water has risen around 5-6 feet, causing some areas of Char Fasson to flood. People are in danger as there is no dam to protect them.” He added that a project proposal of building dams on the embankments was sent to the higher authorities, which is awaiting approval.
