The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has appointed its new commissioner, Renata Brooks, to the independent AFMA commission.
Brooks has been appointed until June 30, 2019.
AFMA chairman Norman Moore acknowledged her extensive experience in natural resource management, including as deputy director general for land and natural resources in the New South Wales department of primary industries.
I am sure all commissioners are looking forward to working with Ms Brooks as we continue to ensure sustainable fisheries for current and future generations, said Moore.
With her diverse experience in the areas of science and research, agriculture, fisheries, biosecurity, compliance and occupational safety, Ms Brooks is a valuable addition to the AFMA commission.”
He also thanked outgoing commissioner, David Hall. Having previously worked in multiple jurisdictions before his appointment as a commissioner, Mr Hall provided valuable insight and knowledge particularly in research and dealing with the strategic issues facing AFMA.
Also announced was the reappointment until June 30, 2019 of three of the current commissioners; Richard Stevens, Ian Cartwright, and Keith Sainsbury.
