A large number of fishermen under the aegis of AP fishermen’s association have staged dharna in front of the collectorate here on Thursday demanding the due compensation to all the affected categories of fishermen during the present fishing ban season. Addressing the protesters association state secretary Kaviri Appalaraju has said that state government had banned fishing in sea for 61 days from April 14 till June 15 but extended it to only those fishing in mechanised and motorised boats. He stated that since the compensation of Rs 4,000 is very meagre, he demanded a payment of Rs 12,000 in cash besides rice, dals, edible oils and other essential commodities adequate for two months.
