Aleutian Islands golden king crab (Lithodes aequispinus) will open on August 1 at 12:00 noon and close on April 30, 2018, as announced by Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries.
The total allowable catch is maintained at the same level as last year, of about 5.5 million pounds, distributed among the commercial fisheries administered under the following systems: individual fishing quota (IFQ), community development quota (CDQ), and Adak community allocation (ACA).
The fisheries Aleutian Islands golden king crab are managed east and west of 174° W longitude with a separate total allowable catch (TAC) for each area.
The total allocated quota for captures at the East of 174° W longitude is 3.31 million pounds: IFQ: 2,979,000 pounds and CDQ: 331,000 pounds.
Meanwhile, at the west of 174° W longitude, it will be possible to capture a total of 2,235,000 pounds of king crab: IFQ: 2,011,500 pounds and ACA: 223,500 pounds.
