Seven fishermen were injured when a fire broke out in their multi-day fishing trawler moored at the Dickowita fishing harbor yesterday (29), police said.
Sri Lanka Navy’s Fire Fighting Unit joining with the Colombo Municipal Council Fire Service Department and personnel of Coast Guard Station Dikkowita managed to douse the fire that suddenly broke out in a multi-day fishing trawler preventing the fire from spreading to nearby vessels.
It has been reported that a gas tank exploded and a fire broke out while the fishermen were preparing lunch in the boat. Seven fishermen injured by the flames were also rushed to hospitals for treatment with the assistance of Coast Guard Station Dikkowita.
Two of the injured are in critical condition, hospital sources said. Four of the injured were admitted to the Ragama Hospital and two to the Colombo National Hospital, police said. The fire has caused severe damage to the trawler.
