The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised the need for a massive campaign among Filipino fishing communities on Indonesia’s fisheries law following the arrest of 53 Filipino fishermen for illegal fishing.
Consul General to Manado Oscar Orcine met on September 27 with officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources based in Davao City and General Santos City to discuss Indonesia’s anti-illegal fishing policy.
At least seven fishing boat operators attended the meeting.
The Philippine Consulate General in Manado said the Filipinos are under the custody of the Marine and Fisheries Resources Base in Bitung and the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) in Manado, Indonesia.
