The 12th meeting of the Monaco Blue Initiative will convene during the 4th Monaco Ocean Week under the presidency of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. In accordance with the continued health and safety measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will convene in a hybrid format involving in-person attendance in Monaco and virtual attendance.
Monaco Ocean Week, which takes place from 22-28 March 2021, will bring together stakeholders in the marine sector in a week of debate on ocean conservation issues. The 12th meeting of the Monaco Blue Initiative will kick off the week’s activities, and trigger debate, analysis and awareness-raising to better understand the challenges related to the ocean. This one-day meeting will take place in three sessions.
— The Role of International Negotiations for Better Ocean Governance: This session will review high-level international negotiations and conventions that include the ocean in their agenda, as well as reflect on synergies to increase their effectiveness.
— Integrating Ocean Issues and the SDGs in Corporate Social Responsibility Strategies: This session will enable experience sharing among companies involved in the blue economy and discuss ways of integrating SDG 14 (Life below water) in their operations.
— From Blue Economy to Blue Finance: This session will provide an opportunity for financial actors to express their views on how to direct capital flows towards a true, efficient and transparent blue economy, particularly in the context of the economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.
The Monaco Blue Initiative is a unique platform that brings together major players in ocean conservation and governance in annual debates to explore solutions to challenges facing the ocean and to promote sustainable blue economy.
