In a view to produce quality fish, which is a requirement for fishery businesses in Northeast India, Manipur and Tripura has agreed on a system to augment production. During the opening ceremony of a four day international conference, on Responsible Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries Interact (RASHI), Manipur Fisheries Minister Dingo Singh announced this fact as a Chief Guest of the event.
The event was organised in Tripura on 13th Of December, Tuesday by the College of Fisheries. The Minister emphasised on increasing the production, and focus on the farmers’ needs. He mentioned about carrying out need-based research for the deprived farmers of Northeast and fulfill their demands.
The minister recognised the tremendous effort by the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, that is under the Central Agricultural University, Imphal. The institution has contributed highly in scientific fisheries research along with academic results and attainment in fishery’s science in the past twenty-five years.
A Fish Festival was inaugurated by the Manipur Fisheries Minister along with the Tripura Fisheries Minister, Prem Kumar Reang. This festival was inaugurated prior to the opening ceremony of the international conference. Krishnadhan Das, MLA of Bamutia Assembly Constituency, Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural University and Dr. C. Suvarna, IFS Chief Executive also participated in the inauguration programme.
The delegates interacted with the members, where most of them belonged from fisheries research institutions that included farmers and stakeholders. Demonstration of technology related to fisheries was also done inside the institution premises. The Manipur Minister also had a talk with the Manipuri students, those who are studying fisheries science and educators involved in the College of Fisheries. He also promised them all sort of development related to the fisheries department.
Recently, during an inaugural session of series of training modules Manipur, scientists and experts emphasised that, apart from the basic initiatives, new scientific technologies should be adopted to expand the fish production in the state.
